Chemaoi wins at Penn Relays
Chemaoi and women's relay teams competed Thursday
April 23, 2009 · Christian LemonPHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Festus Chemaoi won the men's 5000 meters at the Penn Relays on Thursday evening setting a new Middle Tennessee record of 14:17.79 in the event.
Chemaoi placed first overall in a field of 31. His time of 14:17.79 broke Ross Dowland's 1981 school record of 14:20.84 in the event. He now holds school records in the 800, 1500 and 5000 meters.
The women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams also competed Thursday finishing 39th out of 81 teams in the 4x100 meter relay in 47.88 and 26th out 83 teams in the 4x400 meter relays. The 4x100 team was run by Kortney Thurman, Tenesha Hill, Sarah Nambawa and Nyeisha Wright. Thurman, Nambawa and Wright were joined by TraMayne Gillyard for the 4x400 meter relays.
The Blue Raiders will return to action Friday as the men's 4x100 and 4x200 meter teams will compete. The women's 4x200 meter relay team and the men's long jump and women's triple jump will also see action. Full results will be available on thepennrelays.com and goblueraiders.com
