Cox and Songock win at WKU Invitational
Cox earns fifth NCAA Qualifying mark in the shot put
April 26, 2009 · Christian LemonCox continued her strong outdoor season by winning the women's shot put and discus throw. Her toss of 48-2 (14.68m) in the shot put earned her a fifth NCAA Midwest Regional qualifiying mark in the event this season. Cox topped the discus throw field with a distance of 151-7 (46.21m) before finishing second overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 164-7 (56.11m).
Leading the men's track events was Songock, who placed first out of 25 in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:16.11.
On the track for the Blue Raider women, Kiara Henry took third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.58. Henry also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 19-2 (5.84m).
David Emery and Isaac Biwott placed 17th and 23rd with times of 16:66.73 and 18:35.86, respectively, behind Songock in the 5000. Songock collected his second top 10 of the afternoon with a seventh-place result in the 1500 meters in 4:03.63. Teammate Julius Kirui came in 10th in 4:06.77.
Brandon Jones placed fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump with leaps of 47-3.5 (14.41m) and 23-6.5 (7.16m), respectively.
