"Burnett had a two-run home run to get the winning runs on the board. We had a lot of timely hitting tonight," head coach Steve Peterson said. "We faced a pitcher who threw a good game once he got settled in and we got good timely hitting and had a few players step up."
Sophomore Nick Montgomery picked up the win for the Blue Raiders (31-12) after working 2.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
Junior Coty Woods tied the single-season saves record as he picked up his 11th save of the season after working two innings allowing no runs and just one hit.
Former Blue Raider Chase Swing set the single-season saves record with 11 in 2003.
Middle Tennessee had 12 hits on the night with seniors Rawley Bishop and Grant Box and junior Ben Darlington each having two hits on the night.
Belmont (25-20) ended the night with eight hits two of those being for extra bases. Logan Simmons took the loss on the mound after working 6.1 innings allowing six runs on nine hits.
The Blue Raiders got on the board first scoring a run in the first on a sacrifice fly but Belmont answered quickly scoring two runs in the second.
Darlington tied game at two with solo shot to left field in the second. Then Dennis stole home on a double steal with the throw going to second base. A single up the middle by Box added another run as Middle Tennessee took a 4-2 lead after scoring three runs on four hits all with two outs.
Belmont added one run in the fifth after Wilson walked a batter with the bases loaded, 4-3 MT.A two-run shot to left field in the top of the seventh handed the Bruins a 5-4 lead.
Burnett put the Blue Raiders back on top with his to run shot to right field in the seventh.
Middle Tennessee added an insurance run in the eighth after a hit by Hudson brought in Bishop from third.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. when they play host to Austin Peay at Reese Smith Jr. Field.
