DENTON, Texas - Senior third baseman Martha Davis has been named to the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Second Team as announced by the league office Tuesday evening.

The honor marks the second time in the Signal Mountain, Tenn. native's storied career that she has picked up a season honor by the conference. Davis was also named to the second team as well as the Sun Belt All-Tournament Team in 2007.

"She really deserves this honor," head coach Sue Nevar said. "Martha was given the expectations this year of leading the team both offensively and defensively and did a magnificent job."

Davis led Middle Tennessee in batting average (.296) hits (45), homeruns (6), RBIs (30) and slugging percentage (.467). She passed the century mark for defensive assists (finished with 156) on April 5 for the first time in her storied career.

The Signal Mountain, Tenn., native had spent her previous three years with the Blue Raiders in the outfield before moving in to anchor the left side for her final season.

Davis concludes her Middle Tenessee career as one of the most successful players in program history. The third baseman ranks first in RBIs, second in homeruns, third in walks, fourth in extra-base hits, and occupies top ten spots in seven other categories in what truly has been a phenomenal four years as a Blue Raider.

Her prowess also extends into the classroom and community. Davis has been presented on four separate occasions with academic awards by the Sun Belt Conference and was recently honored as the 2009 Middle Tennessee female athlete of the year by the student-athlete academic enhancement center.

"She is going to be an absolutely huge hole to fill next season," Nevar said. "It is not very often that a special player like Martha comes along and she is going to be very hard to replace."

The Blue Raiders have had at least one player named to an all-conference first or second team since they joined the league in 2001. Corrie Abel picked up a second-team honor last season.
