NCAA Individual Championships Central
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Senior Robert McKenzie and sophomore John Peers will begin the NCAA Individual Championships on Wednesday, May 20 hosted by Texas A&M University.
McKenzie will begin play with singles as he faces New Mexico's Johnny Parkes on Wednesday, May 20 in the first round of play.
In his first season with the Blue Raiders McKenzie posted a record of 21-1 and was 18-1 in dual matches. McKenzie went 12-1 at the No. 1 position for Middle Tennessee with his only loss coming to Austen Childs, who was ranked 40th, of Louisville who was ranked 14th at the time.
Then on Thursday, May 21, McKenzie will team with Peers for doubles action as the pair will face Louisville's Austen and Simon Childs.
"I am extremely proud of both Rob and John and can't wait to see how they perform. They have worked very hard all season and will need to use their experiences in this tournament," head coach David McNamara said. "It is a great honor to be playing in the NCAA Individual Championships. This will be a good experience for them and I think they will be able to use the experiece of the team tournament to their advantage this week."
McKenzie and Peers, ranked as high as 29th during the season, posted a 9-1 dual match record all at the No. 1 position. The duo's only loss of the season came against Louisville's Childs and Childs, 9-8 (7), who was ranked 15th at the time and who they will face in the first round.
