MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee Head Men's Basketball Coach Kermit Davis was honored with a milestone achievement award at the Sun Belt Conference Spring Meetings in San Destin, Fla., this week.
Davis was honored for reaching milestone win No. 250 during the Blue Raiders' 2008-09 season. Davis earned his 250th career victory in Middle Tennessee's 83-76 win against Louisiana-Lafayette and has 255 triumphs entering the 2009-10 campaign.
"The recognition certainly was very unexpected but appreciated," Davis said. "I think milestones such as these are something you appreciate more down the road or when you have had time to reflect on the players and coaches. I've been fortunate to have some outstanding assistant coaches and players through the years and they are the reason you enjoy success."
Not only did Davis surpass 250 career wins in 2008-09, but he also continued to establish himself as one of the winningest coaches in both Middle Tennessee and Sun Belt Conference history.
Davis is No. 3 on the all-time wins list at Middle Tennessee with 118. He also is third among all Blue Raider coaches in winning percentage (.554) with a minimum of 50 games. His Blue Raider teams have averaged 17 wins in his seven seasons which is the second-best wins average for any Middle Tennessee coach after seven seasons.
Davis is sixth on the all-time Sun Belt Conference wins list with 61 and is five shy of moving into the fifth on the all-time list. He is second in all-time league victories among active SBC coaches. This total only includes regular-season conference wins.
