COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Middle Tennessee took advantage of its opportunity in the first round of the NCAA Individual Doubles Championship on Wednesday.
Senior Robert McKenzie and sophomore John Peers teamed up to defeat the duo of Austen and Simon Childs of Louisville 7-6 (3), 6-4 to advance to the round of 16.
"Great effort today for John and Rob, they played this team earlier in the season and lost 9-8. John played very well today and helped Rob throughout the match," head coach David McNamara said. "Rob is still a little disappointed with his performance yesterday and today should give him some confidence for them to make a run deep into the NCAA Championships."
The pair played the Childs' doubles team earlier in the season and fell 9-8 (7) in dual match action against Louisville.
McKenzie and Peers will play the winner of Austin Krajicek and Connor Pollock of Texas A&M and Florida's Antoine Benneteau and Joey Burkhardt on Friday, May 22. Results from the NCAA Individual Championships will be posted on goblueraiders.com as soon as they become available.
