Miguez gave the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead in the opening half when she controlled a ball to the left of the net after a scramble and placed it into the back of the net in the 27th minute.
Carter added to the score midway through the second half. The Evansville, Ind., product took a shot from close range that Thompson saved, but Carter put the rebound into the back of the net in the 69th minute for a two-goal Blue Raider advantage.
Carter's second goal of the match and third in the last three games came in the 84th minute, when she took an out-of-bounds throw from teammate Megan McGregor and put it past Thompson for the 3-0 MT lead.
"This was one of our pivotal games this season," second-year MT head coach Scott Ginn said. "I thought we came out and played really well. Emily came out and had a wonderful game. She continues to get better and better as the season progresses."
Middle Tennessee opens conference action Friday against defending Sun Belt champion Florida International at 4 p.m. The Blue Raiders also take on Lipscomb at home this weekend at 1 p.m. Sunday, completing a school-record five-game homestand.
