Lady Raider Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to Southern Miss 4-3
April 16, 2005 · MT Media RelationsMURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team concluded its regular season in a heartbreaker, falling to Southern Miss (14-6), 4-3, in tennis action Saturday morning at Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
The Lady Raiders (7-13) won the doubles point when Jennifer Klaschka and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom defeated Nikhila Narra and Sherry Price at No. 1 doubles, 8-4. Middle Tennessee also won at No. 2 doubles behind Ana Cibils and Emily Vest', 8-4, win against Nicola Slater and Grace Kammerer. Southern Miss' Ali Blackett and Jennifer Sibille was leading in the match, 5-4, over Jacqui Williams and Claudia Szabo when the match was stopped.
Southern Miss evened the match 1-1 following Kammerer's 6-0, 6-2 win against Vest at No. 5 singles. The Lady Raiders regained the lead when Szabo defeated Sibille, 6-1, 6-2.
Southern Miss then got wins at No. 1 singles behind Slater's 6-4, 6-1 victory against Klaschka and No. 6 singles when Blackett defeated Williams, 6-1, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 2 singles after Price defeated Cibils, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. Narra lost at No. 3 singles in three-sets to Siljestrom, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Freshman sensation Siljestrom's win over Narra 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 is her 15th victory of the season. She now boasts a record of 15-5 entering the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
