NEW ORLEANS - Stanley Gbagbeke and Sarah Nambawa earned All-American honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association it was announced this week.
Gbagbeke placed second in the nation in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 26-3 (8.00m) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on June 11. Gbagbeke, a transfer from Delta State University, competed in his first season for the Blue Raiders. He will compete later this summer in the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia, for his home country of Nigeria.
Nambawa earned the honor as one of the top triple jumpers in nation. The Uganda native battled Florida State's Kimberly Williams throughout the outdoor season for the longest triple jump mark in the NCAA. Nambawa finished the season by placing third in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships Saturday. Nambawa earned USTFCCCA Indoor All-American honors earlier this year after finishing second at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She will also compete at the World University Games later this summer.
Both Gbagbeke and Nambawa earned NCAA All-American honors in their respective events and bring coach Dean Hayes' total to 84 throughout his tenured career.
