Blue Raider summer league update

Student-athletes performing well with summer teams

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Blue Raiders have 10 student-athletes playing summer ball throughout the country.

Junior Blake McDade was named Valley League South Division Player of the Week earlier in the summer. McDade, who is playing for the Staunton Braves, is currently batting .292 with 19 hits, three doubles, two home runs and 25 RBI.

Junior Chad Edwards and sophomore Justin Miller remained teammates for the summer as they are playing for the Dubois County Bombers. In three appearances, Edwards is 2-1 with a .74 ERA allowing just three earned runs in 36.1 innings of work.

Miller is batting .250 with 12 hits, two doubles, a triple, home run and has driven in eight runs.

Sophomore Tyler Burnett is playing for the Florence Red Wolves in the Coastal Plain league. Burnett has 17 hits, two doubles, a home run, 12 RBI and has scored 13 runs as he is batting .227.

Sophomore Nick Montgomery has had the best outing on the mound of the Blue Raiders as he is 5-0 in eight appearances for the Lake Erie Monarchs. Montgomery has posted 2.86 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 34.2 innings of work.

Freshman Joey McClung has a 4.32 ERA with a 1-0 record in 16 innings of work for the Fulton County Railroaders in the KIT League.

Freshmen Justin Guidry, Robert Lawrence and Brett Wilson are also in the KIT League playing for the Union City Greyhounds.

Guidry, a two-way player, is batting .354 with 29 hits, five doubles and has scored 18 runs. On the mound, Guidry has posted 4-0 record with a 1.73 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 37 innings of work.

Lawrence is batting .243 with 25 hits, five doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI and has scored 18 runs.

Wilson is 2-1 on the mound for the Greyhounds with 29 strikeouts in 24 innings of work. Wilson has an ERA of 2.25

Sophomore Bryce Brentz made the USA Baseball National Team after a week of tryouts. Brentz is batting 3.33 with five hits, two doubles, three RBI and has scored four runs. On the mound, Brentz has seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. In the final game with Canada Brentz entered the game in relief forcing four consecutive outs on 12 pitches, striking out the side in the seventh.
