WEEKEND ACTIVITIES: This weekend's pregame activities include an autograph giveaway and a cow-milking contest. The first 100 kids 12 and under will receive a free autographed action picture of former Blue Raider and current Tampa Bay Devil Rays pitcher Dewon Brazelton. Prior to Saturday's game there will be a cow-milking contest sponsored by the university Dairy Club.
OWENS PLAYING IN ATLANTIC LEAGUE: Former Blue Raider Jeremy Owens is playing for the Somerset Patriots in the independent Atlantic League. The Patriots began their season April 27, and the league features a host of former big leaguers. Owens played the past two seasons in the Boston Red Sox organization after five years in the San Diego Padres organization.
COOPER INKS WITH ELMIRA: Former Blue Raider Chad Cooper signed a contract with the Elmira (NY) Pioneers this week in the independent Can-Am League. Cooper played the past two seasons in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization before being cut this spring. The Can-Am League has teams from the Northeast League and Northern League and begins play May 26. More information may be found at canamleague.com.
BASEBALL CAMP DATES SET: The 2005 Steve Peterson Baseball Camps have been set for June, with the Pitcher-Catcher Camp the first of three offered for individuals and set for June 12-14. The Hitting Camp is June 14-16, with both camps for ages 13 - High School senior. The final individual camp of the summer is the Day Camp for ages 7-12 only, set for June 20-23. CHUCK TAYLOR GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR JUNE 7: Middle Tennessee head baseball coach Steve Peterson has announced the annual Chuck Taylor Golf Tournament will be played at Indian Hills Golf Course on Tuesday, June 7, 2005. As usual, the event will be a four-person scramble with prizes awarded for first through fifth place. Prizes will also be given for Closest-to-the-Pin and Longest Drive. A hole-in-one on any par 3 on the course will be awarded prizes as well. Each entry into the tournament will receive a barbecue lunch, a goody bag, free beverages on the course, a red tee and mulligan, and a chance for a big money prize for an ace on hole number seven. The entry fee is $115 per player. The tournament committee is also seeking hole sponsors for $100 each. Registration for the tournament is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start scheduled for 1 p.m. For further information or to obtain a registration form, please contact Tommy Wheeler at 615/890-3333 or 615/893-8498.
