MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee cruised to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16) win over Murray State in its second match of the Middle Tennessee Invitational. The Blue Raiders (2-0) will look to remain undefeated when it faces Xavier at 7 p.m. tonight.
The Blue Raiders recorded 55 kills in the match for an attack percentage of .500. Junior Izabela Kozon led the attack for Middle Tennessee with 16 kills followed by senior Ashley Mead, who had 13, and sophomore Stacy Oladinni with 11.
Mead ended the match with a .579 attack percentage while Oladinni hit .471.
"Offensively, we were pretty good. We did a much better job defending in the third set. Overall I would give us an A but we do have another match tonight so we have to be ready to go again," head coach Matt Peck said.
Defensively, Middle Tennessee had just three blocks while the Racers had six but that did not slow it down. Senior Ashley Waugh had 11 digs on the afternoon as she guided the defensive side of the ball while senior Leslie Clark, who had 42 assists) ran the offense.
In the first set, Oladinni led the team with four kills as she was 4 for 5 with just one error for a .600 attack percentage. Middle Tennessee had 19 kills in the set posting a hitting percentage of .577.
Kozon registered eight kills in the season set as she led the team with a .700 attack percentage going 8 for 10. The Blue Raiders notched an attack percentage of .607 after going 19 for 28.
Middle Tennessee had six players hit .300 or better in the match.
