Volleyball falls to Miami
Mead leads offense with 13 killsSeptember 11, 2009 · MT Athletic Communications
Three Blue Raiders had double-digit kills in the match but it was not enough to pull out a win. Senior Ashley Mead led the way for the second straight match with 13 kills as sophomore Stacy Oladinni added 10 and junior Izabela Kozon notched 10 of her own.
Middle Tennessee won the first set before losing a very close second set against the Hurricanes who used the momentum from winning set two to pull out the match. The Blue Raiders have now lost four straight matches which is only the second time it has happened since head coach Matt Peck took over the program in 2004.
"We are not playing well right now. The people we need to step-up are not stepping up and we need more than one player to be playing well at a time," Peck said. "Until those two things happen it is going to be very hard for us to win."
In the match, Middle Tennessee had 51 kills for a .239 hitting percentage while the Hurricanes had 56 kills with an attack percentage of .293.
The Blue Raiders stayed in system more during against Miami recording 50 digs than it had earlier in the day against Albany. The block was not as good as it had been earlier in the day as Middle Tennessee had just four blocks as a team.
Service errors hurt the Blue Raiders once again as they had 16, two more than the match earlier in the day, but Miami also had 11 and each team had five service aces to even out the free points.
Middle Tennessee will face its first ranked opponent of the season on Saturday, Sept 12 at 11 a.m. when it faces No. 22 Florida State in the Miami/FIU Invitational on the campus of FIU.
