October 5, 2009 · MT Athletic CommunicationsPeers, seeded 11th, defeated Nevada's Wessim Derbel in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
"John performed very well under difficult conditions. It was quite chilly and windy today on the courts. He played one of his better matches this fall," head coach David McNamara said. "He was composed, kept the ball in play and took advantage when he had chances. John's goal is to get through qualifying so we have two more matches to go to get to the main draw."
In the second round of qualifying on Tuesday, Oct. 6 Peers will face the winner of UL-Lafayette's Piotr Banas and Vasko Mladenov of Texas.
Results will be posted on goblueraiders.com when they become available.
