NEW ORLEANS - Festus Chemaoi was named Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Performer of the Week, Tuesday, by the Sun Belt office for his performance at last Saturday's Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
The Middle Tennessee junior ran the 8,000 meter race in 24:20.48 placing him ninth out of 250 runners. Chemaoi's performance led the men's team to a fifth place finish out of 38 teams and earned him his first POW of the season. The Ainobkoi, Kenya native ran the course almost 40 seconds faster than last season.
This marks Chemaoi's first cross country POW honor in his time at Middle Tennessee. He has put together a stellar 2009 campaign thus far and has guided his men's team to a seventh place ranking in the South region in this week's USTFCCCA poll.
Chemaoi and the rest of the men's cross country team will resume competition in two weeks at the Chattanooga Invitational. Stay tuned to goblueraiders.com for results and coverage.
