Peers wins again

One win from main event

TULSA, Okla. - John Peers is one win away from the ITA All-American Main Draw after posting a win on Tuesday.

Peers defeated conference foe Piotr Banas of UL-Lafayette 6-2, 7-5 to put him in the finals of the qualifying round.

"I played well today. He was a tough opponent but I did well enough to get it done. It was a tough match and I really had to work for it," Peers said.

On Wednesday Peers will face Stanford's Gregory Hirshman, who won his match 6-4, 7-6 (8) over Jaime Pulgar of North Carolina State.

"I don't know a lot about Hirshman so I am just going play my game. It will be another long day tomorrow but I am excited to go out and play," Peers said.

With a win on Wednesday, Peers advances to the main draw of the tournament which will begin on Thursday.

Peers along with teammate Victor Melo will compete in the main draw doubles tournament which is also slated to begin on Thursday.
