A Q&A with football newcomer Chris McCoyAugust 1, 2005 · MT Media Relations
"I just want to get through fall camp. Everyone keeps telling me it's going to be hard but I think it's going to help having the chance to be here some in the summer and getting use to things football-wise, and going to class and getting use to school."
How important has the new NCAA rule allowing freshmen to come to summer school paid off for you so far?
"It gets you ahead and I think that can only help as you go into the fall semester. I think this helps you get adjusted and aren't as surprised when it hits."
What has impressed you to this point about the Middle Tennessee campus and/or the community?
"I am real impressed with the Rec Center at Middle Tennessee and the Murphy Center, but above all the people here are great."
What do you feel will be the biggest difference from high school football to Division I-A football?
"Not taking plays off. You could get away with taking some plays off in high school or just being bigger than other people but that's not the way it's going to be here. You better be ready to bring it every day."
How do you feel about some of the recent scheduling announcements that will see the Blue Raiders have home games against Louisville, Virginia, and Maryland?
"It's going to be great knowing these teams have to come here. I think that helps your chances of beating some of these teams and the people in the community will have a chance to really support you and fill the stadium. It's very exciting as a player to know you are going to play these teams at home."
What are some of your hobbies?
"Playing basketball and hanging out with my teammates. I go to church a lot. I enjoy going to church and I've been able to go to church with some people here all ready."
What are some of your academic goals?
"My first semester I want at least a 'B' average. I don't want to be an average student. I want to be better than that. If I can do better I will work hard to do that, but I at least want to maintain a 'B' average in the fall and go from there."
What is your impression of some of the returning players who are here for voluntary workouts?
"I'm impressed with Erik Walden at defensive end, Jeff Littlejohn, Chris Henry, Pierre Ingram, Clint Marks, Cleannord Saintil. Those guys have really worked hard and they are impressive players. They have taken me under their wing and given me direction."
What is the typical week for you right now?
"Go to class in the morning and then I have study hall in the afternoon. I weight train around 4 p.m. and then the rest of the evening is to relax and have a little time myself."
