MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Looking for a faster start, the Middle Tennessee women's golf team will be competing in the Alamo Invitational in San Antonio, Texas on Monday and Tuesday.

"We have got to get out of the gate a little better than we have been," said Coach Chris Adams. "Only once this fall have we shot well in the first round than we did in the second."

Getting off to a strong start won't be easy, as the 54-hole tournament will feature such teams as Tennessee, Oklahoma, SMU, Baylor, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Tulane. The tournament will be played on the Briggs Ranch Golf Club just west of San Antonio. The format is 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

"This is a very good field. We will have to play well every round and upset some teams to get a good finish," noted Adams. "We can't have any scores over 80. That shows inconsistency, and we need to be better than that."

Middle Tennessee's No. 1 player all fall, freshman Olivia Love, has been hampered with a knee injury suffered in the Blue Raiders' last tournament two weeks ago.

"Olivia has been very consistent, but she hasn't played in two weeks, so we will just have to evaluate her every day," said Adams.

Love leads the Blue Raiders this fall with a 76.4 stroke average and a low score of 70. She has two top 10 finishes, including a sixth place showing at the Duramed MAC Preview two weeks ago. Another freshman, Ashley Haggard, is second on the team with a 78.8 average and a low score of 74, followed by junior Morgan Hale at 79.7, with a low round of 75.

Clara Leathers and Steph Gough will round out the five-player team that will make the trip to San Antonio.
