NEW ORLEANS - A customary tune last season has renewed again this year as Middle Tennessee's Alysha Clark has been selected as the Nov. 17 Sun Belt Player of the Week it was announced by the league office Tuesday. The honor is the first given out by the conference this season.
Clark led the No. 24 Blue Raiders to a 78-53 win in their opener Sunday against defending Conference USA champion UCF. The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native finished with game-high efforts of 32 points and 15 rebounds for her 56th career double-double and 18th as a member of Middle Tennessee.
Two days prior to the game last week, she became the first honoree in school history to be selected as a Preseason First Team All-American as ESPN.com bestowed the accolade upon her.
Clark garnered a league-record six Sun Belt Player of the Week awards in 2008-09 and this week's honor moves her career total to seven, matching Amber Holt for the most in school history since it joined the conference in 2000-01.
Since Rick Insell took the reigns of the Blue Raider program prior to the 2005-06 campaign, Middle Tennessee has had a Player of the Week 20 times, three more than the next-closest school.
The Blue Raiders will resume their campaign at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., to face LSU. Middle Tennessee has won each of the last two meetings with the Tigers, including last season's 79-75 victory inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
