MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Alex Suber was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday by members of the media as announced by the league office.

Suber led a Blue Raider defense at Louisiana-Monroe that came up with three interceptions, 12 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks to help the team win its fourth road game of the year.

The senior from Tampa, Fla., accounted for eight tackles, a sack, a TFL, a pass breakup and an interception that he returned 56 yards to key a defense that moved to No. 1 in the league in scoring defense. Suber's sack was the third of the game for the Blue Raiders and was the one that broke the single-season team record.

Suber's interception came late in the third quarter with Middle Tennessee holding a 21-13 lead. The senior stepped in front of a Trey Revell pass and returned it 56 yards to set up a touchdown and give the Blue Raiders a comfortable 28-13 advantage.

The Blue Raiders have now picked up nine player of the week honors this season and 61 all-time (21 offense, 20 defense, 21 special teams). Under Rick Stockstill, the Blue Raiders have now won 34 player of the week awards.
