KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America handed out some of its 2009 awards recently and the Middle Tennessee soccer program received three overall recognitions.

The Blue Raiders were among the top 332 women's programs nationally, covering all three NCAA divisions, as recipients of the NSCAA College Team Academic Award for the 2008-09 academic year. In order to earn the accolade, a program must have posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

It marks the eighth consecutive season, since 2002, Middle Tennessee has garnered the award. All eight honors have come under head coach Aston Rhoden.

Two Blue Raiders collected All-South Region Third Team distinction, as junior Vanessa Mueggler and sophomore Shan Jones were selected as a midfielder and forward, respectively, on the 11-player team. The pair received All-Sun Belt honors following the campaign with Jones tabbed first team and Mueggler selected second team.

The NSCAA accolades for the pair are just the second and third in program history, as they join Kala Morgan's honor in 2006.

Rhoden's 2009 squad finished with a 12-6-2 record, the third-best mark in school history.
