MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee defensive end Chris McCoy has been recognized as the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year by Sporting News as announced by the publication today. This comes on the heels of McCoy being selected as a co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Sun Belt Conference by the leagues coaches and media and Honorable Mention All-American honors by SI.com.
The 6-4, 245-pound red-shirt senior from Villa Rica, GA led the Blue Raiders in sacks (7) and tackles for loss (20). He also had 59 tackles, three pass breakups and three quarterback hurries. McCoy blocked a field goal at Maryland, and recovered two fumbles, returning one of them 68 yards for a score at Clemson.
McCoy will close his collegiate career in the New Orleans Bowl this Sunday as the Blue Raiders take on Southern Miss at 7:30 pm on ESPN.
