MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee volleyball (9-1) extended its winning streak to eight, as the Blue Raiders defeated UT-Martin 3-0 (30-20, 30-18, 30-24) and Tennessee Tech 3-1 (30-22, 30-19, 27-30, 30-23) Saturday at the Blue Raider Bash Tournament in Alumni Memorial Gym.
The Blue Raiders started the day by facing off with UT-Martin. Middle Tennessee made quick work of the Skyhawks, picking up their first shutout of the tournament, defeating the in-state foe.
Middle Tennessee ended the match with a .336 attack percentage and held UT-Martin to just .170. Andressa Lyra led both squads with 16 kills and also added two service aces. Sophomore Victoria Monasterolo recorded a double double with 12 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Megan Carter came into the match to serve and rewarded the team with four service aces, which ties her career-high.
In the second game of the day, Middle Tennessee cruised through game one and two against Tennessee Tech. The Blue Raiders appeared to have game three under control as well, but Tennessee Tech had other ideas. The Golden Eagles roared back to extend the match by winning game three 3027. Though Middle Tennessee hit an anemic .175 in game four, the Blue Raiders pulled out the win and took the match to remain undefeated in the tournament.
Freshman Ashley Adams continued to impress, as she notched a career-high 23 kills in the match against Tennessee Tech. Lyra was close behind with 20, and also added 16 digs.
Middle Tennessee returns to action on Sunday when the Blue Raiders host McNeese State in the final match of the Blue Raider Bash Tournament. The match time is set for 1 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
