Middle Tennessee set to welcome Owls to Murphy Center

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's basketball will conclude a two-game stint against the Sun Belt's Florida schools when it plays host to Florida Atlantic at 2 p.m. Saturday. The game will be the first of a Blue Raider doubleheader, with the men's team also facing the Owls, later in the day at 7 p.m.
The women's squad is coming off a 90-58 victory over FIU Wednesday in which Jackie Pickel led all players with a career-high 34 points, including a 6-of-10 effort from behind the 3-point arc. Tina Stewart also tallied a career-best scoring night, pouring in 12 points.
Senior Brandi Brown topped the 1,000-point plateau with her 10 points, becoming the 22nd member of the exclusive club at Middle Tennessee.
The fourth Blue Raider to register double-digit scoring was All-American Alysha Clark with her 22 points and game-best 13 rebounds. Clark moved into a tie for 13th on the NCAA list for career double-doubles with 64, inching closer to the Top 10.
Middle Tennessee brings a 10-5 overall and 5-1 Sun Belt record into Saturday's contest. The Blue Raiders have won six of the seven all-time meetings with the Owls, including a 90-64 triumph in last year's home tilt.
Florida Atlantic is 8-8 overall and 4-2 in the league this season. Brittany Bowe paces Chancellor Dugan's squad with 12.1 ppg, while Lyrell Barfield carries an 11.1 ppg mark. Jessica Knurick tops the team in rebounding, hauling in an average of 5.5 per game.
The game will serve as Rutherford County Honor Roll Day. Children making the Honor Roll will receive a complimentary ticket with one paying adult. Also, it is Scales Elementary Day as the Scales Elementary Superstar Chorus will perform the National Anthem.
