NEW ORLEANS - Middle Tennessee's Brittany Cox and Cherice Robertson were named Sun Belt Conference athletes of the week by the conference office for their accomplishments at the Blue Raider Invitational last Saturday. Cox earned the field award with Robertson garnering the track honor.
Cox broke her own Sun Belt and Middle Tennessee record in the 20 lbs. weight throw with a winning toss of 62-8 (19.10m) earning her first NCAA Provisional qualifier in the event. The toss placed her 14th in the NCAA. She also won the shot put at the meet with a mark 48-5 (14.76m). Cox currently holds NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks in both the shot put and weight throw.
Robertson earned an NCAA Provisional time of 7.84 in the 55 meter hurdles. Her time is the top in the conference to this point and 20th fastest in the NCAA. She also won the high jump with a leap of 5-8 (1.73m), tying her career high and the Middle Tennessee record.
Cox and Robertson will return to action this weekend as the Blue Raiders travel to Lexington, Ky., for the Rod McCravy Memorial meet hosted by Kentucky. Results and coverage will be available post meet on goblueraiders.com
