MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's basketball team will put a cap on its season-long three-game homestand at 7 p.m. Wednesday when it plays host to Troy inside the Murphy Center.
The Blue Raiders will carry a season-best six-game winning streak into the matchup, having come off a school-record 119-51 victory Saturday over North Texas. The 119 set a single-game scoring mark and featured three starters netting at least 20 points for the second time in three contests.
Senior Brandi Brown hit 7-of-8 from 3-point territory to become the program's all-time leader in 3-pointers made with 230, surpassing the old standard of 224 set by Heather Prater (1993-96). Fellow senior Jackie Pickel added six from long range, helping Middle Tennessee tie its own school mark of 20 3-pointers made, one shy of the NCAA record.
Redshirt senior and All-American Alysha Clark continues to lead the SBC in scoring and rebounding with 24.9 ppg and 11.2 rpg averages, respectively. She is fourth nationally in scoring and eighth in rebounding.
The Blue Raiders' six-game winning streak improves their record to 15-5 overall and 10-1 in the Sun Belt entering Wednesday's game. Middle Tennessee owns a two-game lead in the East Division over South Alabama and a one-half game edge over UALR in the overall league standings in the push for the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament.
Head coach Michael Murphy's Trojans squad brings an 11-9 overall and 4-7 Sun Belt ledger to town. Troy has won just once in its last five games, but nearly knocked off South Alabama in its last outing, falling by two at home to the Lady Jags.
Junior Donette McNair paces the team with 12.9 ppg, followed closely by 12.4 ppg from Brittnie Davis. All five projected starters average at least 8.2 ppg.
The Blue Raiders hold a 10-0 series advantage over the Trojans, including picking up an 82-46 home victory a year ago.
