North Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Middle Tennessee women's golf fired a 298 to take the early first round lead at the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic being held this weekend at Bay Tree Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

"We played great today with very few errors," said Head Coach Rachael Short. "The players focused on each shot instead of looking ahead to the next hole."

Following closely in third is Cincinnati with its 305 on the day. Western Michigan is fourth with a 308 and rounding out the top five is Florida International and Ball State, both with a 309.

Middle Tennessee's Jamey Dillard shot a 73 for the four-way tie for first place with College of Charleston's Angie Hill and Gretchen Zoeller and Newberry's Eva Cormann. As a team, the Blue Raiders have a six stroke lead over host College of Charleston.

"Jamey has really stepped it up in this tournament," Short said. "She is playing relaxed and has really moved into a leadership role."

Blue Raiders Taryn Durham and Grace Holmes each shot a 74 in the first day of action and are tied for fifth place. Leigh Wilkins chipped in a 77 to sit tied at 21 and Maggie McGill rounded out the team scoring with a 79 and is tied for 39th.

Middle Tennessee will play the second round on Saturday.
