Tennis falls 7-0 to Tennessee

Waters performs well

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee fell to Tennessee 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.

Sophomores Richard Cowden and Matthew Langley battled in No. 2 doubles but fell 8-5 to Rhyne Williams and Boris Conkic.

Juniors John Peers and Victor Melo fell to John-Patrick Smith and Davey Sandgren 8-2 while junior Kyle Wishing and freshman Shaun Waters lost their match 8-1 to Tennys Sandgren and Mateo Fago.

In singles play, Peers fell to Smith 6-1, 6-1 in the first position while Melo lost his match 6-4, 6-2 to Conkic.

Williams defeated Cowden 6-2, 6-4 in three singles while Langley fell to Tennys Sandgren 6-2, 6-3. Waters had one of the best performances on the day losing the first set 6-1 to Matt Brewer but battled in the second set before losing 7-5.

Middle Tennessee will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to play New Mexico and Denver on Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6.
