MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's basketball student-athletes Brandi Brown and Alysha Clark received First Team Academic All-District IV accolades it was announced Thursday by CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine.
Brown's honor is the third of her career, the most by an individual in program history. She was tabbed Third Team as a sophomore in 2008 and selected Second Team as a junior in 2009 previously. While she is a senior in terms of athletic eligibility, she is listed as a graduate student on the ballot due to completing her undergraduate requirements last May at Middle Tennessee.
Clark receives her first accolade as a senior. She is the fifth Blue Raider in program history to garner Academic All-District honors.
It marks the first time since 2006 two Middle Tennessee players earned Academic All-District Team recognition in the same season, as Chrissy Givens and Krystle Horton both were honored during that campaign. However, it is the first time two players were placed on the First Team.
Givens was also the last Blue Raider to collect First Team accolades, doing so in 2006 and 2007.
Both players will now join the other district First Team honorees on the national ballot. Forty-one student-athletes representing the eight districts will be included and eligible for votes.
