MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's track and field teams will compete in their final indoor regular-season meet of 2010, as the Blue Raiders will play host the MT Valentine's Invitational at Murphy Center Saturday.

Participants from Alabama State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Bethel College, Milligan College, Chattanooga, Rhodes, Tennessee State and Western Kentucky will comprise the large field competing at this weekend's event.

The Blue Raiders and the other teams will be making their last minute preparations for the upcoming conference championships in two weeks. Athletes will most likely be competing in the events where they plan to help their respective team at the conference championships.

Unfortunately for both Middle Tennessee squads, injury has been an issue with some of the top Blue Raider athletes being sidelined. The latest to go down was senior Brittany Cox, who will not compete this weekend because of an ankle injury suffered this week in practice. Cox is currently ranked fifth in the NCAA in weight throw and 11th in shot put.

Team members Festus Chemaoi, Zamzam Sangau and Cherice Robertson are competing Friday and Saturday in Allendale, Mich., at the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State. The GVSU meet will feature over 1,600 entrants on a fast track with high competition the Blue Raider trio is hoping will propel them to NCAA qualification. Chemaoi and Sangau will run the men's and women's 800 meters later Friday evening with Robertson running the 55-meter hurdles Saturday.

The MT Valentine's Invitational will begin at 11 a.m. with the shot put and is slated to conclude at 4:40 p.m. with the 4x400 meter relay. Full results and coverage will be available on goblueraiders.com.
