MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team picked up a pair of victories in singles action Friday at the UK Fall invitational in Lexington, Ky., with freshman Kelly Adams and Pooja Kommireddi continuing their good play in the early season.
Kommireddi was the only Blue Raider to win an opening-round match, defeating Auburn's Erin Grey in Flight C, 7-5, 6-1. But Kommireddi dropped a 3-6, 2-6, decision to Kentucky's Caroline Winebrenner in the second round and will now play at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday.
Adams lost her first match of the day in Flight B, 4-6, 2-6, to Kentucky's Laura Adams, but bounced back with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Ohio State's Ciara Finucane. Adams plays at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Also in Flight B, Marlene Chemin lost 1-6, 4-6, to Marshall's Jeane Schwartz, and then dropped a 6-7, 3-6, 7-10, decision to East Tennessee's Sylwia Ziolkowski. Chemin plays at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
In Flight A, Ann-Kristin Siljestrom lost to Denver's Suzana Makovic in the first round and then dropped a 0-6, 3-6, decision to East Tennessee's Masha Ilina in the second round. Siljestrom will play at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Doubles teams of Adams-Chemin and Kommireddi-Siljestrom played late Friday in first-round action. Full results from the tournament may be found at ukathletics.com.
