MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Junior John Peers has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
It is the second consecutive weekly honor by the Blue Raiders as Victor Melo received the award last week.
John Peers posted a 7-1 record on the week between singles and doubles. He won all four singles matches which included defeating No. 58 Mississippi State's George Coupland, ranked 85th, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Peers teamed with Kyle Wishing for three of his four doubles matches winning all but one. The pair defeated Mississippi State's Coupland and Ilyushin 8-1. Against Tennessee Tech, Peers paired with Victor Melo for an 8-3 win over Josh Girling and Nicholas Stafford. Overall, Peers has posted an 8-2 record in singles and is 5-4 in doubles.
The Blue Raiders ended the week 2-2 as a team with wins over Brown and Tennessee Tech on Tuesday.
Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 12 p.m. when they play Vanderbilt.
