MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Kelly Adams both won first-round singles matches, and Siljestrom and partner Claudia Szabo won twice in doubles, during a weather-plagued Friday at the Middle Tennessee Women's Fall Invitational.

Because of misting rain most of the day, play was forced inside to The Racquet Club of Murfreesboro with its four indoor courts. Most of two rounds of doubles action were completed, with another dozen first-round singles matches still left to play at 9 p.m. Friday evening.

Siljestrom and Szabo defeated Belmont's Katie Rhodes and Linda Johansson, 8-4, in Flight A before taking care of Chattanooga's Lindsey Ballard and Anastisia Zhukova, 9-7, in the second round. The twosome will play the winner of Alet Boonzaaier-Marina Tasheva (Tennessee Tech) and Katrina Domela-Sara Leavy (UT Martin) in Saturday's semifinals at 9 a.m.

In other doubles action, Adams and Marlene Chemin in Flight B lost to Jacksonville State's Eloah Lopes and Layla Abby, 4-8.

Siljestrom won her first-round singles match in Flight B over Ball State's Stephanie Farrar, 6-1, 6-3, and will play the winner of Babette Lombarda (Jacksonville State) and Ieva Balcus (Western Kentucky) in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

In Flight A, Adams defeated Jacksonville State's Erin Higgs, 6-4, 6-1, and will face UAB's Gulsah Esen in the quarterfinals. Chemin was set to play late Friday against Ball State's Katie Owens.

In Flight C, Pooja Kommireddi played despite feeling under the weather, dropping a 3-6, 0-6, decision to Belmont's Elizabeth Conyer. Kommireddi will play the loser of Abby and Vikki Cann (UT Martin) on Saturday.

The nine-team event continues Saturday and will conclude Sunday with singles and doubles finals. Play is set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center on the Middle Tennessee campus.
