Siljestrom Wins in Women's Final
October 9, 2005 · MT Media RelationsSiljestrom beat Chemin, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, making up for her poor play at last week's UK Invitational when she lost four straight matches. The sophomore won all four of her matches this weekend, the first three in straight sets, before Sunday's three-set victory.
Chemin proved a worthy opponent, as the freshman went 3-1 in singles in the tournament, including a pair of three-set victories.
Another freshman, Pooji Kommireddi, won her third straight match on Sunday, defeating UT Martin's Amber Garza, 7-6, 6-1. Kommireddi lost on Friday when she felt under the weather, but came back to pick up three straight-set triumphs in Flight C.
In Flight A singles, freshman Kelly Adams defeated Chattanooga's Lindsey Ballard, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5, and UAB's Ornischa Maier-Knapp, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6, capping a 3-1 effort for the tournament, as well.
The women's squad also posted three doubles wins on Sunday, led by Adams and Chemin with two victories.
Adams-Chemin defeated Western Kentucky's Erin Fulkeron and Whitney Robards, 9-8 (1), before taking out Jacksonville State's Erin Higgs and Michelle Dushner, 8-4.
Siljestrom and Claudia Szabo lost 3-8 to Tennessee Tech's Alet Boonzaaier and Marina Tasheva, but came back to defeat Jacksonville State's Eloah Lopes and Layla Abby, 8-3.
The tournament concluded the fall schedule for the women under first-year head coach Alison Ojeda. Full results from the tournament may be found on the women's tennis page at GoBlueRaiders.com.
