MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Morgan Hale became just the second Blue Raider women's golfer to earn the Sun Belt Conference's Golfer of the Month award on Thursday.
The junior from Tullahoma, Tenn. carded the third-best three round score in Middle Tennessee history with a 1-under 215 at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate. She set a new career record in the second round by shooting a 2-under 70, and then shot another 70 in the third round.
"I'm very proud of Morgan for this accomplishment," said Coach Chris Adams. "I think it's clear that she deserved this honor, it was one of the best performances in school history."
Previously, Taryn Durham walked away with Sun Belt Golfer of the Month honors, winning it in the 2004 fall season and again in the 2005 spring season. Durham is also the only golfer to best Hale's 215, having shot 214 on two occasions.
Hale also helped the team to a great finish in the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, leading all teams on day one at the Oak Point course by 13 strokes and all teams on day two at the Cougar Point course by six strokes. The Blue Raiders finished sixth in the 33 team field that included several higher ranked opponents.
Middle Tennessee will look to build on that success this weekend at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate. The Blue Raiders will play 36 holes on Sunday and a final 18-hole round on Monday.
