MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Hoping to improve on their current ranking, Middle Tennessee's women's golf team will take to the links on Sunday and Monday in the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in Augusta, GA.
Middle Tennessee is coming off of an impressive sixth-place finish out of 33 teams at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate two weeks ago, and jumped into the Top 100 in the rankings for the first time in three years.
"There are five or six teams in this tournament ranked ahead of us, and we will go in there and try to upset some or all of them," said Coach Chris Adams. "Augusta State, the host school, and Coastal Carolina are the two highest ranked teams in the field, and they will be hard to beat, especially Augusta on their home course."
Morgan Hale, the Tullahoma junior who was named as the Sun Belt Conference's Player of the month earlier this week, will lead the Blue Raiders in the 14-team tournament. She shot a 1-under 215 for three rounds, finishing third at Kiawah, and leading her team to a sixth-place finish.
"Morgan and two others got a bye from qualifying this week because of the way they played at Kiawah. Morgan will play No. 1 this week, and right behind her will be a couple of freshmen, Olivia Love and Stephanie Smith," Adams noted. "We had qualifying for the next two spots and Clara Leathers was way ahead in that. The fifth spot will go to Karisa Akin."
Adams will also take freshman Ashley Haggard as an independent sixth member of the team. She will play, but her score will not be counted.
The tournament will be held on the Forest Hills course in Augusta. The teams will play 36 holes on Sunday and a final round of 18 on Monday.
