Siljestrom Wins Twice to Reach Quarterfinals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Andreas Siljestrom won a pair of singles matches Saturday, reaching the quarterfinals of the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional in Memphis, Tenn.

Siljestrom, ranked 57th nationally in singles and seeded ninth in the tournament, defeated teammate Rishan Kuruppu, 7-6, 6-4, in his first match of the day. The junior then took care of Florida's 40th-ranked Vlad Obradovic, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. He will take on the winner of Georgia State's Martin Steigwardt and Alabama's Joseph Jung in the quarterfinals Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

"Andreas played real well today, serving well and just playing consistent," head coach Dale Short said. "He played very good against Rish and then continued that into his next match. There's no reason why he cannot continue this stretch and reach the finals."

In other singles action, Marco Born defeated Georgia's 59th-ranked Matic Omerzel, 6-4, 6-4, in the Round of 32, but fell to Florida's Chris Brandi, 4-6, 3-6.

Brandon Allan and Kai Schledorn, ranked eighth in the country in doubles, are the top seed for the 64-team main draw and were set to play late Saturday afternoon against Central Florida's Tarek Ben Soltane and Brock Sakey. Greg Pollack and Kuruppu were also were playing late Saturday afternoon versus Tennessee's Kaden Hensel and Ben Rogers.
