NEW ORLEANS - Middle Tennessee's Lindsey Vander Lugt was named Sun Pitcher of the Week for her 14.0 straight innings of shutout work against the Evansville Purple Aces last Tuesday at Blue Raider Field as she became the first Blue Raider hurler to win the award since Stayc Preator on 5/6/02.

Vander Lugt pitched back-to-back complete games last Tuesday, no-hitting the Purple Aces in the first contest before turning around to throw seven full innings of work allowing two unearned runs in the second contest. The Olympia, Wash. native struck out a combined 10 batters between both games while allowing only one walk and seven hits.

Entering her senior campaign, Vander Lugt has quietly proven herself as one of the top pitchers in Middle Tennessee history. When she finishes her collegiate career, she will finish with the most pitcher appearances, innings pitched and starts for a pitcher in program history. She will also finish in the top three on the list for wins, ERA, strikeouts, shutout games and complete games.

"It is long overdue for Lindsey," said head coach Sue Nevar. "She is a superb pitcher and does not get the credit she deserves because she does not have as many wins next to her name as some of the other elite pitchers in the league."

In 2010, Lindsey has a record of 7-6 with an ERA of 3.15 and 55 strikeouts. However, in her last four starts she is a perfect 4-0 with a miniscule ERA of 1.15 and 22 strikeouts. She has helped the team to a 6-4 record in their last 10 games.

"Lindsey gives our team a lot of confidence when she throws. We know if we can bring two or three runs across the plate, we should win the game. She manages games and knows how to shut down strong opposing teams."

Vander Lugt will not be able to rest upon her laurels as the team has a busy week with six games scheduled between Wednesday and Sunday. She will see plenty of action over the five game span and will play a crucial role in the team's success as they strive toward the program's first winning record since 2004.

This week, the team will travel to Jacksonville State for a Wednesday doubleheader before playing a Thursday home game against the Rebels of Ole Miss and then concluding the week with a three game conference series versus South Alabama. Live audio for Thursday home contest with Ole Miss will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com with livestats and full coverage available for all games.
