Raiders fall to No. 4 Washington, 3-2

MARANA, Ariz. - Middle Tennessee kept battling at the Calloway Match Play Championship but still could not get in the win column Monday. The Blue Raiders dropped their second straight 3-2 decision at the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain course by falling to No. 4 ranked Washington.
In a match that was suspended due to darkness on Sunday night and completed earlier in the day Monday, the Blue Raiders fell to Arizona, 3-2.
Against Washington, seniors Kent Bulle and Craig Smith picked up wins for the Blue Raiders. Bulle defeated Nick Taylor, 4 and 3 while Smith downed Charlie Hughes, 3 and 1. Bulle has yet to be beaten during the tournament.
"I am proud of the way the guys are competing," said Head Coach Whit Turnbow. "We have had a chance to win every match but just can't get over the hump. We are looking forward to Tuesday."
Jason Millard fell to Richard Lee, 3 and 2, and Hunter Green dropped a 3 and 2 decision to Chris Williams. Brad Simons was downed by Chris Kilmer, 6 and 2.
Entering play Tuesday, Middle Tennessee is 0-3 as a team and 5-9-1 in individual matches.
The Blue Raiders will take on TCU, the No. 9 seed, on Tuesday.
