Blue Raiders slay Bruins 13-7

Skinner drives home four runs

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee took a decisive 13-7 win over Belmont on Wednesday night a Reese Smith Jr. Field.

Junior Will Skinner went 2 for 4 with two home runs bringing in four runs and scoring two more against the Bruins. Junior Tyler Burnett went 4 for 5 on the day with a double and scored two runs.

The Blue Raiders had 14 hits on the day with everyone in the lineup recording at least one hit. Juniors Justin Miller also had two hits on the day with Miller driving in three runs and Bryce Brentz hit his eighth home run of the season.

Junior Eric Gilley received the start on the mound allowing four urns on five hits in three and two-thirds innings of work. Senior Kevin Whittaker took the win after allowing just two runs on two hits in two and a third innings of work with four strikeouts.

Senior Tyler Hyde, junior Jud Stoltz and sophomore Justin Guidry each worked one inning on the mound.

There were six home runs and five doubles between the two teams with Belmont recording nine hits on the day.

Belmont began the game with a leadoff home run by Elkins. Middle Tennessee quickly responded scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

The two teams then traded runs in the next two innings with Belmont pulling ahead 4-3.

Guidry's double in the third scored McDade and Brentz putting the Blue Raiders up 5-4. Then Miller's single to left center bringing in Guidry and extending the lead to two. With runners at first and second, Skinner hit a long ball to right centerfield to pad the Blue Raider lead. Middle Tennessee ended the inning scoring eight runs on seven hits as it jumped out ahead of the Bruins by seven, 11-4.

Belmont added a run in the fifth but the Blue Raiders answered with a home run by Brentz keeping the seven run lead. Two batters later, Miller hit a solo shot to right field as the Blue Raiders went up 13-5.

Middle Tennessee will play host to South Alabama in a three-game Sun Belt series over the weekend beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 26. Beginning with Friday's game all of the remaining Blue Raider home games will be web streamed through goblueraiders.com.
