Team wins two of three against South Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. -The Middle Tennessee softball team won their first conference series of the 2010 season taking two of three games from the South Alabama Jaguars over the weekend. The Blue Raiders lost the Sunday series finale 6-0 finishing with a conference record of 2-4, 11-12 overall.
Middle Tennessee recorded three hits, no runs and gave up three errors in the loss.
Pitcher Lindsey Vander Lugt's picked up her seventh loss of the year moving to 10-7 on the season with an ERA of 2.14. She pitched 2.1 innings striking out three batters allowing three runs off of five hits. All runs were earned. Janele Robinson came to relieve Vander Lugt in the third. She threw 3.2 innings tallying two strikeouts and giving up three runs off two hits. One run was earned. Vander Lugt's longest career win streak ended at seven games.
In the first, Corrie Abel and Kaycee Popham recorded back-to-back two out singles. Natalie Ysais would reach first after being hit by a pitch to load the bases. The team was unable to bring the runners home. This would be the Raider biggest opportunity of the game.
South Alabama got on the scoreboard first in third scoring three runs. The team would add three more in the fifth extending the lead to 6-0.
Corrie Abel led the Blue Raiders in hitting for the series going 5-11 with three RBIs.
For the weekend, Vander Lugt threw 19.1 innings in three games striking out 22 hitters while allowing 13 hits for three runs, one earned.
