OXFORD, Miss. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf program improved to finish seventh (out of 20) at the Rebel Intercollegiate after shooting a 294 in the third round.

"It was a very good team effort," said Coach Chris Adams. "We played in some great conditions and improved each round. We really hung tough out there."

Clara Leathers was the top Blue Raider finisher after shooting a one-over 73 to finish 11th in the 111-player field. The senior finished with a three-over 219, the best three round score of her career.

"Clara played pretty steady out there," said Adams. "She birdied and eagled back-to-back holes in the back nine, and I think that got her going."

After shooting a first-round 80, Morgan Hale improved each round and carded an even par 72 on Sunday to tie for 29th with a 10-over 226. Olivia Love also recovered from a first round 80, and shot a third round 72 as well to finish tied for 35th with an 11-over 227.

Ashley Haggard recorded a five-over 77 to finish with a 15-over 231 and tie for 54th. Steph Gough tied for 84th in her first tournament of the season after shooting an eight-over 80 to end with a 23-over 239.

Competing in the tournament as an individual, Karisa Akin shot a three-over 75 to finish with a 16-over 232, tying for 58th.

"We're really feeling like we can compete out there. It's exciting for our players to be watching the scores in the afternoon and beating some teams now that we've lost to in the past," explained Adams.

The Blue Raiders, who beat several top 100 rated teams in the tournament, will host their first ever home event on Tuesday at Stones River Country Club in Murfreesboro. It will be the final event for Middle Tennessee before heading to the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
