Middle Tennessee drops home match to North Texas
Blue Raiders win at No. 3 doublesApril 16, 2010 · Athletic Communications
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - One doubles win was not enough to give the Middle Tennessee women's tennis team momentum as it dropped a 4-0 home decision Friday afternoon to North Texas at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
"Overall, we played like a team who has put in the work, a team who knows we are ready to take that next step, but like a team who is a little tired," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We fought hard throughout the match and competed, but fortunately that is something you can always expect from our Blue Raiders. We need a couple of our young players to work to break through their shell and play like veterans."
The Blue Raiders were able to muster one doubles win among the three played. Sophomore Taylor Coffey and senior Anna Djananova topped the Mean Green's Paula Dinuta and Madura Ranganathan, 8-3, during the No. 3 contest.
"Anna and Taylor did a great job winning their doubles match and giving us a chance to pull out two doubles matches. Yuiri and Carla were at 5-6 when it came down to their match and at that point, Yuiri got scared. Instead of seeing all our MT fans and thinking about the support they are showing by cheering us on, she got tight. She wants so badly to show everyone that we care a good team, that we are ready to take our program to the next level. But, she got tight."
North Texas (13-6) was able to lock up the victory with three straight-set singles triumphs, at the No. 2, 5 and 6 positions.
"It was our first home match and we had a great crowd. If we win that doubles point against the No. 2 team in our conference, you are looking at a dog fight in singles. We look forward to tomorrow and find out what we are made of."
The Blue Raiders will return to the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center for a Noon Saturday match against Troy. It will be the second of three-straight home matches to end the regular season for Middle Tennessee.
