Blue Raiders win close match over Warhawks

Two default singles wins help MT to victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee began a two-match road trip to Memphis Friday with a narrow 4-3 win over ULM in neutral-site women's tennis action. The Blue Raiders won four singles matches despite the Warhawks' gaining the doubles point victory.

The lone doubles win for the Blue Raiders came at the No. 1 spot, where Carla Nava and Yuiri Nomoto handed Ana Burjaili and Claire Clark an 8-2 loss. The other two contests went into extra points before ULM (10-3) pulled out 9-7 and 9-8 triumphs at the No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively.

Middle Tennessee (9-5) then was able to tie the match at 1-1 before singles started after Marietta Bigus won by default at the No. 5 slot. Taylor Coffey also won by default in the No. 6 singles match.

Araya picked up a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 2 singles against Lena Satge, while Nomoto knocked off Vivian Polak 6-3, 6-4 during the No. 4 meeting.

Anna Djananova battled hard in a three-set decision before falling 6-7, 6-2, 6-0 to Monica Winkel at the No. 3 position.

The Blue Raiders will look to continue the winning ways at 2 p.m. Saturday when they face the host Tigers before returning to Murfreesboro.
