MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The first day of the MT Women's Fall Invitational was forced indoors due to rainy weather in the area, considerably cutting down on the number of matches played Friday in the opening rounds.

One round of both singles and doubles play was finished, with doubles action beginning at 8 p.m. Friday night at the Racquet Club in Murfreesboro.

In Flight A singles action, the only Lady Raider to play Friday was Carien Venter, who dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Melissa Roach of Ball State.

MT's Tanja Buchheim defeated Bethany Everett of Chattanooga, 7-5, 7-5 in Flight B action, but teammate Michaela Gridling dropped a 1-6, 6-1, 6-10 decision to Mississippi State's Elaine Fagan in the opening round.

Lady Raiders' Emily Vest, Verena Preiss and Stacy Varnell all drew opening round byes Friday and will see their first action of the tournament Saturday.

Saturday's gameplan calls for a second round of doubles play to begin at 8 a.m. at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center unless weather pushes play back indoors. Two rounds of singles play will then begin following the second round of doubles action Saturday.

Complete results of the tourney, as well as updated brackets, can be accessed at GoBlueRaiders.com. The tournament concludes Sunday with finals action in all flights Sunday afternoon.
