Cox sets records at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Brittany Cox set Middle Tennessee records in both the shot put and hammer throw at the Penn Relays on Thursday. The senior threw 181-7 (55.37m) in the hammer throw before tossing a mark of 54-1.25 (16.49m) in the shot put.
Cox's toss of 181-7 (55.37m) won the hammer throw in the college women's division. Her shot put mark of 54-1.25 (16.49m) placed her third in the college women's championship division where she threw against the best in the NCAA. The Antioch, Tenn., native also won the discus in the college women's division with a mark of 167-8 (51.13m). Her discus throw just missed topping Shelly Johnson's Middle Tennessee discus record and was a personal best for Cox.
In the long jump, Sarah Nambawa placed ninth in the college women's championship. The senior recorded a mark of 18-10.75 (5.76m).
Kortney Thurman placed 10th in the long jump with a leap of 18-10.5 (5.75m). Nyeisha Wright placed 18th with a jump of 18-3 (5.56m).
Cherice Robertson came in 24th in the college women's high jump with a mark 5-4.5 (1.64m).
In the distance events, Zamzam Sangau finished sixth in the college women's 3,000-meter championships in a time of 9:46.42. Sangau sets a career best.
Festus Chemaoi placed 13th in the college men's 5,000 meter championships in a time of 14:18.17.
