Mason wins at WKU Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Middle Tennessee's Chris Mason won the 5,000 meters at a rain shorted WKU Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky., Saturday.
Mason's time of 15:45.40 bested the 11 man field by almost 11 seconds en route to his first victory on the season.
Philip Benavides took first place in the 800 meters, posting a time of 1:59.03. David Emery placed second in the event in a time of 2:00.42.
In the sprints, Vincent Johnson came in second in the 100 meters, recording a time of 11.44. Justin Chambers was the lone competitor in the 400 meters finishing in 54.20.
DeRay Sloss placed second in the 110 meter hurdles in 14.80.
On the women's side, Marla Bailey performed well taking second in the 800 meters fifth in the 1,500 meters respective times of 2:27.80 and 4:54.10. Jackie Serem placed third in the 800 in 2:32.43 with Ashley Comstock finishing fourth in 2:35.58.
In field events, Ann Dudley set a season best 5-4 (1.63m) in the high jump. Dudley finished second.
The Blue Raiders will not compete next weekend in order to rest and prepare for the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Denton, Texas May 7-9. Full results and coverage will be available on GoBlueRaiders.com.
