Hunt, a 6-9 220-pound forward, will be a junior when he joins the Blue Raiders in the fall after transferring from Snead State Community College in Boaz, Ala., where he played for head coach Rodney Hampton.
"I'm really excited about Kyle Hunt signing. He reminds me a lot of William Pippen in that he has really good length. Kyle is a little bigger than William was when I coached him but his skill level is like William's. He can put it on the floor, is a very good pullup shooter, with good length and I really like that over half of his rebounds are on offense. He has a knack for rebounding on both ends," Davis said.
This season, Hunt received Northern Division Player of the Year honors as well as First Team accolades. Hunt was named Alabama Community College Conference All-First team after averaging 17.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game for the Parsons. Hunt scored 411 points and pulled down 272 rebounds.
"I definitely feel like it's a great opportunity to go to Middle Tennessee. From what I've seen of campus and meeting the coaches it seemed like a great fit. I just felt like it was the right place, I talked to my parents, made the decision and I am very happy to be coming to Middle Tennessee," Hunt said. A native of Queens, N.Y., Hunt had seven games with 20 or more points and 14 games with 10 0r more rebounds. He also had 41 blocks on the season.
"Kyle comes from a great family. His mom and dad are really good people, he played for an excellent junior college coach in Rodney Hampton and I think Kyle is going to fit the mold of the rest of our players. He is very responsible academically, really good guy in the community, a good player and will really represent Middle Tennessee in a really good fashion," Davis said.
Hunt joins a talented Blue Raider signing class with local standout Kerry Hammonds Jr., Jeffery Simmons and two forwards in Melvin Baker and Shawn Jones. Jimmy Oden and Jason Jones will also be on the active roster for the Blue Raiders after redshirting last season due to the transfer rule.
