MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Director of Athletics Chris Massaro announced today that Middle Tennessee will open the 2006 home football schedule on a Thursday night against longtime rival Tennessee Tech on September 14. It marks just the third Thursday night game for the Blue Raiders during the I-A era.

The Blue Raiders opened the 2003 season on a Thursday night at home against Florida Atlantic, and they played Vanderbilt on a Thursday night to open the 2001 campaign.

"We are very excited about opening at home on Thursday night against Tennessee Tech," said Massaro. "Two things our students approached us about was playing on a Thursday night and hosting more area teams. We are pleased we could work it out against an local team that has a rich tradition with Middle Tennessee. There is a lot of history between these two programs and I think it will be a special night for our students and fans."

The Blue Raiders and Golden Eagles will be meeting for the first time since 1998 in a series that was hotly contested in the I-AA era. Middle Tennessee owns a slim 35-32-7 advantage in the series which began in 1917.
